The different colours of Impact Investing

May 9 @ 08:00 - 09:45

The term “impact investing” is being used more and more in the financial sector. New impact funds are being announced by many international institutions, often in response to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. But what is the definition? Does it include additional perspectives and practices, or is it just a new framework and language for how asset managers update their Enrivonmental Social and Governance – practices?

This is an opportunity for members to learn more about how to view the range of impact investing products that are coming to market.

Impact Invest Scandinavia’s founding partner Ruth Brännvall will provide definitions and the key principles behind impact investing. Several examples using different financial instruments from different geographies will show the spectrum it covers today.

Mistra’s was one of the first trusts in the Nordics in looking at how their financial assets could be aligned with the organisation’s sustainability mission. Mistra has seed-funded several international funds that have become the leading examples of impact investing. CEO Åke Iverfeldt will present Mistra’s reasoning about the link between the SDGs and investments and asset management. He will also provide some warnings of potential traps in the vast increase of funds that try to use the terms of impact and sustainability to sell their products  – for example when funds declare their carbon footprint.
